
The M4QN Laboratory Exchange Award is available to facilitate the formation of new collaborations and the identification of new opportunities in areas of interest for the Network. The Award is available to registered M4QN members. Funding is available for visits to any UK HE institution.
Who can apply?
The funding is available to PhD students and Early Career Researchers (ECRs) who are registered members of M4QN and are based within a UK HE institution. The total budget for the call is £6,000 and we aim to support 10 awards.
When is the call open?
The call is open on 30th June and will close on 31st July 2023.
What is eligible?
The award supports travel and subsistence of the awardee for exchange to a laboratory within the UK, up to a maximum of £600. The Award does not fund research.
The following costs are not eligible in this Award:
- Equipment
- Salary
- Research consumables
All costs must comply with UKRI policy.
What we’re looking for
M4QN aims to bring together the UK’s materials and quantum technologies communities and therefore, awards will be given to applications that align with this goal. The Laboratory Exchange Award should facilitate interaction between research labs and lead to activities such as new collaborations, exchange of knowledge, identifying new opportunities and topics, and any other activities that are relevant to the overall aim of the Network and goals of its Interest Groups.

Applicants must complete the application form by 4pm on 31st July 2023.
What is the review process?
Applications will be evaluated by a panel chaired by the ‘Early Career Researchers’ thematic interest group.
General information
- The exchange must take place within 6-months of the award date
- Recipients of the award will be required to provide a written report on the outcomes, provide full evidence of expenditure, and will be profiled on M4QN media including, our newsletter, website and Twitter page
- Recipients must abide by their institution’s guidance on data protection and intellectual property. Further guidance on Trusted Research is provided by the National Protective Security Authority
