Materials Horizon Scanning
Materials Interest Groups (MIGs)
This group seeks to identify new opportunities for the materials community to contribute to the development of quantum technologies. These include not only the application of new or overlooked classes of materials, but also new techniques for materials design, characterisation, synthesis and processing.
The network published a Future Directions report on materials for quantum technologies based on discussions held the M4QN Roadmap Event in January 2024. This report identifies the challenges for the development of materials for two quantum application areas: computing, and sensing and imaging. This includes not just the materials used for qubits but also the supporting materials e.g., glues, adhesives etc. It links the capabilities and materials to science and to applications.
